30-share BSE Sensex rose by 155.62 points to 72,181.77 in early trading today

Monday's trade saw benchmark equity indices begin the day higher but subsequently give up all of their early gains to close negative due to unfavorable Asian market trends.

In early trading, the 30-share BSE Sensex increased by 155.62 points to 72,181.77. The Nifty increased to 21,763.95, up 53.15 points.

But later on, both indices were trading lower as they were unable to maintain the bullish momentum. The Nifty dropped 53.25 points to trade at 21,653.85, while the Sensex quoted 177.54 points lower at 71,821.10.

Sun Pharma, Tata Steel, HCL Technologies, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Industries, and Titan were the top gainers among the Sensex companies. Notable laggards were Hindustan Unilever, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, ITC, IndusInd Bank, and NTPC. Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Seoul's markets in Asia were trading at lower levels. On Friday, the US markets saw a slight increase.

On Friday, the BSE benchmark increased by 178.58 points, or 0.25%, to end the day at 72,026.15. To reach 21,710.80, the Nifty increased by 52.20 points, or 0.24%.

According to exchange statistics, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) purchased stocks on Friday for a total of Rs. 1,696.86 crore.

Benchmark Brent crude for global oil prices dropped by 1.09% to USD 77.90 per barrel.
