Tremors were experienced across several regions of West Bengal today as a 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck neighbouring Bangladesh on Saturday morning.

The National Center for Seismology reported that the earthquake occurred in southeastern Bangladesh with a depth of 55 km at 9:05 am. The seismic event was officially recorded by the NCS, stating, "Earthquake of Magnitude: 5.6, Occurred on 02-12-2023, 09:05:31 IST, Lat: 23.15 & Long: 90.89, Depth: 55 Km, Location: Bangladesh, India."

The West Bengal Disaster Management Department assured that, so far, no damage has been reported from the tremors from any part of the state. An official informed PTI, "We are yet to get the final report. As of now, there is no report of any damage due to the quake."

Both the Kolkata Police and the Kolkata Municipal Corporation officials confirmed that there were no casualties or property damage reported from the eastern metropolis from the tremors. The city seems to have escaped unscathed from the seismic activity originating in Bangladesh.
