55 killed in Himachal, Chief Minister Warns Himachal Death Toll Could Rise

In some areas of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, heavy to very heavy rainfall was predicted by the India Meteorological Department over the upcoming 24 hours. For both of the hilly states, the Met department has issued a "red alert" that will eventually be reduced to an "orange alert".

Over the next two days, moderate to heavy rain is predicted for Himachal and Uttarakhand. Beginning on August 20, a further heavy spell is possible.

Today, portions of Uttarakhand may experience very heavy downpours, according to Weather Channel India. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Himachal Pradesh may experience heavy rains.

The death toll could increase. Restoration work is being done with military precision. New arterial highways and a four-lane motorway between Chandigarh and Shimla opened.

Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the Congress, expressed his sorrow over the deaths brought on by heavy rains and landslides in Himachal Pradesh on Monday.

Kharge also wished the injured a quick recovery in a post on the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter).

"It hurts me much to hear about the recent torrential rains and landslides in Himachal Pradesh that claimed many lives. In this difficult moment, we support all the victims. At the accident scenes, the Chief Minister and our ministers are there, and rescue and relief efforts have accelerated. We offer our condolences to the relatives of the deceased and wish the injured a quick recovery," Kharge wrote in a tweet.

State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is carrying out relief and rescue activities in several locations in Uttarakhand as a result of nature's wrath. Landslides and flash floods have been caused by Uttarakhand's heavy rains in a number of locations.
