ISRO Chief: Aditya-L1 navigates successfully to Sun's halo orbit
In a major achievement for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Aditya-L1, India's inaugural space-based mission dedicated to studying the Sun, has triumphantly reached Lagrange Point L1. This marked the culmination of a 126-day journey from lift-off, with ISRO Chief S Somanath describing it as the "end of a long journey."
The Perspective of ISRO Chief
Somanath acknowledged the anxious moments surrounding the mission's complexity but expressed confidence in its success. "It was a complex mission, I won't say challenging mission. Challenges are something that we love, complexities are something that we have to overcome," he stated, emphasizing the team's ability to overcome hurdles precisely.
Key Mission Details
Aditya-L1, launched in September of the previous year, has a specific goal to explore the Sun's photosphere, chromosphere, and outer layers known as the corona. Placed in a Halo orbit around Lagrange Point L1, approximately 1.5 million kilometers from Earth, the observatory provides uninterrupted views of the Sun, devoid of occultations or eclipses.
Prime Minister Modi's Appreciation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded ISRO's success on his social media platform, recognizing their accomplishment in achieving the second successful mission within nine months. Somanath expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister's appreciation, stating, "He messaged us through his social media platform and appreciated the work that we did. We are very happy about it."
While celebrating the successful navigation to the final point, Somanath also highlighted the ongoing work ahead. "Payloads are working very well, but now many more things are to be done on payloads to make sure that the data is reliable and usable, so that will start from now."
As Aditya-L1 settles into its crucial role, it is poised to unravel the mysteries of the Sun, contributing valuable data for understanding solar dynamics and investigating various layers leading to solar eruptive events.
