Afghanistan has had an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 on the Ritcher scale, according to the National Center for Seismology.

According to the national disaster authority of Afghanistan, hundreds of people died in western Afghanistan earlier in October by a massive magnitude-6.3 earthquake that was followed by intense aftershocks, as reported by the Associated Press.

In the deadliest earthquake to hit the quake-prone mountainous nation in years, the Taliban administration reported that over 2,000 people were killed and over 9,000 injured.

The epicentre of the magnitude 6.3 earthquake, according to the US Geological Survey, was located 40 kilometers (25 miles) northwest of Herat, the major city in the region.

Later on, three extremely powerful aftershocks with magnitudes of 6.3, 5.9, and 5.5 along with a few smaller ones followed. According to what the Geological Survey had previously stated, eight aftershocks with magnitudes ranging from 4.3 to 6.3 occurred next.
