A Delhi-bound Akasa flight with 185 passengers on board was forced to make an emergency landing at Mumbai Airport after a bomb threat was reported by a passenger. The incident unfolded in the early hours of today, sending authorities into action to ensure the safety of everyone on board.

The flight had departed from Pune and was on route to Delhi when the emergency situation arose. Approximately 40 minutes after takeoff from Pune Airport, a passenger on board claimed to have a bomb in his bag, prompting the flight to be immediately diverted to Mumbai.

Akasa Airlines issued a statement regarding the incident, confirming that their flight QP 1148, originally scheduled to travel from Pune to Delhi, received a security alert shortly after takeoff at 00:07 hrs on October 21, 2023. The aircraft was carrying 185 passengers and six crew members.

Reponse to bomb Threat on the flight

In response to the threat, the captain initiated the necessary emergency procedures, ensuring the safety of all passengers and crew members. The flight touched down safely at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at 00:42 hrs.

Upon arrival in Mumbai, a comprehensive security check was conducted. A police officer stated that the Mumbai Police Control received information from a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer at around 2.30 am regarding the bomb threat. Subsequently, the passenger's luggage was thoroughly inspected in the presence of the Bomb Detection and Disposable Squad (BDDS) team and police officers. Fortunately, no suspicious objects were found during the investigation.

The passenger who had made the bomb claim was transported to the hospital via ambulance after landing at the Mumbai airport. He complained of chest pain and subsequently received medical attention. The police were informed that the passenger had taken medication for chest pain, as confirmed by a relative accompanying the passenger on the flight.

Following police clearance, the Akasa flight resumed its journey to Delhi from Mumbai Airport at around 6 am.

The Mumbai Police is currently conducting further investigations into the matter, seeking to understand the circumstances surrounding the bomb threat and the passenger's actions. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of swift and comprehensive responses to ensure the safety and security of all air travelers.
