Abdul Rahim Rather elected as Speaker of J&K assembly, will preside over the new session
The National Conference leader and MLA Abdul Rahim Rather has been elected Speaker for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. While CM Omar Abdullah and Protem Speaker Mubarak Gul congratulated the new Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather for the new responsibility.
Jammu Kashmir Assembly got a news Speaker
Let us tell you that 80-year-old Abdul Rahim Rather is a seven-time MLA from Charar-e-Sharif seat. He has previously held the post of Speaker in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. He has also been the Leader of the Opposition from 2002 to 2008. When Mehbooba Mufti's People's Democratic Party (PDP) and Omar Abdullah's Congress Alliance (NC) formed the government in the state, Rather took over this responsibility.
Abdul Rahim Rather has been MLA continuously since 1977
However, advocate Abdul Rahim Rather has been elected for the seventh time in the assembly elections. Rather has been winning the assembly elections from Char-e-Sharif constituency of Budgam district on a NC ticket continuously from 1977 to 2014.
Although in the year 2014, he lost the election to PDP candidate Ghulam Nabi Lone. After this, elections were not held for 10 years. Now in the 2024 assembly elections, Rather made a comeback and defeated Ghulam Nabi Lone.
He had also been the Finance Minister of the Valley
The Abdul Rahim Rather has also held the responsibility of the finance minister of the state in the previous governments of the National Conference. He is one of the old and senior leaders of Farooq Abdullah's party National Conference. Along with Farooq Abdullah, he has also held many responsibilities with the party's founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah.

First session of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly today
The elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir after 10 years and NC party Omar Abdullah's formed the government. Now this is the first assembly session of this new government and new opposition. An assembly session was held here 6 years ago in the year 2018.
