Banks Are Open on July 23 Despite the Festival
According to the official list of bank holidays released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks will remain open on July 23. Sawan Shivratri is not recognized as a national bank holiday. So, banking services are operating as usual across India unless a specific state has issued an update.
List of Bank Holidays in the Last Week of July 2025
Even though banks are open today, there are a few holidays lined up this week. These include regional holidays like Drukpa Tshe-zi in Gangtok on July 28, as well as the regular Saturday and Sunday offs on July 26 and July 27, respectively. If you're planning to visit your branch, this might create a long weekend, so plan your transactions accordingly.
Weekly Bank Offs Continue as Usual
Just like every month, banks across India, including those under the State Bank of India (SBI), remain shut on the second and fourth Saturdays and on all Sundays. This month, the fourth Saturday falls on July 26, which will be a non-working day nationwide.
How Are Bank Holidays Decided?
Bank holidays in India are decided jointly by the RBI and respective state governments. These holidays reflect a mix of national events, religious occasions, regional festivals, and other administrative requirements. These are announced officially on RBI’s website and communicated to all banks in advance.
You Can Still Use Online Banking Services
While physical branches may be closed on certain days, you can still use net banking, mobile apps, ATMs, and UPI services. Unless there is a technical issue or downtime announcement, digital banking services remain functional even on holidays.
