Artificial rain can save Delhi from poisonous air, Gopal Rai appeals PM Modi for intervention
Delhi Pollution: The environment minister Gopal Rai in Delhi government, has demanded PM Narendra Modi's intervention to make artificial rain to deal with the growing pollution crisis in Delhi. Even though Gopal Rai wrote letters to the Union Minister on 30 August, 10 October and 23 October demanding immediate action on the serious situation of pollution, but he has not received any reply yet. On the other hand, the people of Delhi are troubled by pollution.
How artificial rain is made
Artificial rain is made through a technique called cloud seeding. Under this, salt particles like silver iodide and chloride are sprayed on the clouds. Sometimes a special plane is used for this, sometimes a rocket and sometimes special equipment present on the ground. These salt particles attract the vapor present in the cloud towards them.
This also attracts moisture which thickens and takes the form of water droplets and rains down. The attempt is to change the order of the natural development of the cloud, so that it can rain artificially.
Artificial rain is a weather modification technique
Although artificial rain is a weather modification technique that improves the ability of a cloud to produce rain or snow by adding small pieces of ice to certain types of sub-freezing clouds. Dropping small pieces of ice on the clouds causes new ice pieces to grow rapidly and fall back from the clouds to the earth's surface, increasing snowpack and streamflow and causing rain.
Appeals to the Center for artificial rain - Gopal Rai
Although the situation has worsened so much due to rising air pollution in Delhi that Gopal Rai has now demanded artificial rain from the central government. Gopal Rai said that according to experts, artificial rain can be an effective measure to control the dangerous pollutants present in Delhi's air. Letters were written several times to the Union Environment Minister to make artificial rain in Delhi.
Writing a letter to Union Environment Minister
Demand for a meeting with experts from IIT Kanpur: Gopal Rai said, "I am writing a letter to the Union Environment Minister in this regard. The Central Government should immediately call an emergency meeting on this issue. Experts from IIT Kanpur should be included in this meeting, so that a scientific solution to this serious problem can be found."
Appeal to PM Modi to intervene - Gopal Rai
However, Gopal Rai also alleged that the BJP government is not serious on this issue. Today the BJP government is just sitting idle. The Central Government has not even called a meeting in this matter. Gopal Rai also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene. He said, "This has become a matter of medical emergency. People's health is being seriously affected due to pollution in Delhi and the government should find a solution to this problem. If the government is not able to provide a solution, then an initiative should be taken to call a meeting on artificial rain."
Artificial rain is done in many countries
Environment Minister Gopal Rai also said that pollution has been reduced, and the situation has improved by using artificial rain in many countries of the world. Now, the level of pollution can be reduced in Delhi also by using this technology.
Due to the ever-increasing level of air pollution in Delhi, the situation has not only become a danger signal for health, but it has also become a serious challenge for the city dwellers. After this appeal of Gopal Rai, the question is arising whether the central government will take any steps soon to control the pollution in Delhi.
Center for Atmospheric Sciences
According to Prof. Sagnik Day of the Center for Atmospheric Sciences, IIT Delhi, some special elements of the weather are necessary for artificial rain. These include the presence of proper amount of moisture and clouds in the air, only then this process can work effectively.
Last year, IIT Kanpur also estimated the cost of artificial rain in Delhi. According to this, artificial rain can cost about one lakh rupees per square kilometer, and since the total area of Delhi is more than fourteen hundred and fifty square kilometers, its total cost can be quite large.

NOC required from other departments
Delhi government is planning to create artificial rain to reduce pollution in Delhi. To create artificial rain, it is mandatory to obtain No Objection Certificate (NOC) from 11 departments of the Central Government. Without the intervention of the Central Government, Delhi Government cannot obtain No Objection Certificate. Environment Minister Gopal Rai alleges that even after writing letters several times, the Union Environment Minister is not giving any reply.
