Ashtami, the eighth day of the Shardiya Navratri festival, is regarded as one of the most auspicious days. This day honors Maa Mahagauri, who embodies purity and beauty. The color of the day is Pink, representing compassion, harmony, and love.

Worshipping Maa Mahagauri

Maa Mahagauri is often depicted with four arms and rides a bull. She carries a trishul (trident) in one hand and a damru (drum) in the other. According to legend, Goddess Parvati performed intense penance to win the affection of Lord Shiva. Although her devotion led to their marriage, it also caused her to lose her fair complexion. Seeking to regain her beauty, she received advice from Lord Brahma to defeat the demons Sumbha and Nisumbha and bathe in the Ganges River in the Himalayas. Following this guidance, she transformed into Maa Mahagauri.

The Essence of Shardiya Navratri

Shardiya Navratri celebrates the nine-day conflict between Goddess Durga and the demon Mahishasura, culminating in Mahishasura’s defeat on the tenth day. This victory signifies the triumph of good over evil. The tenth day, known as Dussehra, also commemorates Lord Rama’s victory over the demon king Ravana, which led to the rescue of Goddess Sita.

Looking Ahead: Diwali
