No Timeline for Sheikh Hasina 's Extradition Agreement

Mohammed Rafiqul Alam, a spokesperson for the Bangladeshi foreign ministry, acknowledged that there is no fixed timeline or agreement in place for Sheikh Hasina's extradition. However, he stressed that if India does not act within an appropriate timeframe, Bangladesh will take further measures to secure her return.

Diplomatic Note Sent in December

Addressing the media, Alam revealed that a formal diplomatic note was sent to India on December 23, seeking Sheikh Hasina's extradition. He stated that no response had been received yet and that Bangladesh would wait for a certain period before taking additional steps.

While he refrained from detailing the potential "further steps," he emphasized the country's intent to resolve the matter diplomatically.

Political Controversy in Bangladesh

Amid growing tensions, a separate controversy arose when Apoorva Jehangir, deputy press secretary to the chief adviser of Bangladesh, posted remarks on social media suggesting territorial claims on parts of India. Jehangir later clarified that his comments were personal and did not reflect the stance of the interim government.

The Bigger Picture

The situation has created a diplomatic strain between the two neighboring nations. While Sheikh Hasina 's extradition remains a sensitive issue, the delay in India's response and the accompanying political statements in Bangladesh are adding to the complexity of the matter.

Bangladesh has reiterated its hope for a constructive dialogue with India and a timely resolution to the extradition request. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining the direction of India-Bangladesh relations.
