Bank Holiday Today: On Saturday, August 16, 2025, banks in many Indian states will stay shut to mark Janmashtami, the festival celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna. The timing of this holiday, right after Independence Day on Friday, August 15, has led to a long weekend for several regions.

Two-Day Weekend Break

With Janmashtami on Saturday followed by the regular Sunday holiday on August 17, many states will experience consecutive bank closures. Even in states where banks usually open on Saturdays, customers will face limited in-person services this weekend.

States With Bank Closures

Banks will remain closed on August 16, 2025, in the following states and Union Territories:
Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Mizoram, Sikkim, Rajasthan, Jammu, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Srinagar, and Andhra Pradesh.

Services Still Available

While physical branches remain shut, customers can still access ATMs, mobile banking, UPI, and internet banking without disruption. However, services such as cheque deposits, cash deposits, or passbook updates will only resume from Monday, August 18, 2025.
