Bobby Deol Reveals How He Was Replaced in Jab We Met
Actor Bobby Deol recently opened up about how he was part of the early planning of the iconic film Jab We Met. He shared that he was the one who first got director Imtiaz Ali and actress Kareena Kapoor Khan involved in the project.

Bobby Deol Discovered Imtiaz Ali and Believed in His Talent
Bobby said he saw a rough cut of Socha Na Tha, which was Imtiaz Ali’s first film, starring Bobby's cousin Abhay Deol. Impressed by Imtiaz’s work, Bobby encouraged him to write a film especially for him. That idea later turned into Jab We Met.
Bobby Worked Hard to Set Up the Project
Bobby said he helped connect the director with the production house Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision. While the producers liked Bobby, they were unsure about working with a new director like Imtiaz. Bobby convinced them to take a chance on him.
Kareena Kapoor Was Not Interested at First
Bobby also shared that he reached out to Kareena Kapoor Khan through someone he knew. At first, she was not interested in doing the movie. The team then offered the role to Preity Zinta, but she also declined at that time.
Bobby Was Replaced by Shahid Kapoor
Despite working so hard to set up the film, Bobby was removed from the cast later on. Kareena eventually said yes to the role, but Bobby was replaced by Shahid Kapoor. The film became a blockbuster, and Shahid-Kareena became a hit pair.
Bobby Felt Hurt but Holds No Grudge
Bobby admitted he was very hurt by the decision. He said, “It hurt a lot; I was quite disappointed back then.” However, he doesn’t blame Imtiaz Ali and believes the director made a choice that he felt was right for the film.
Will Bobby Get a Second Chance in the Sequel?
Now that there are rumors of a sequel to Jab We Met, fans are wondering if Bobby Deol might finally get the chance he missed years ago. Time will tell if he gets to complete the circle.
