Case updates on WhatsApp, New Delhi: In a move to enhance transparency and accessibility, the Supreme Court of India has announced the integration of WhatsApp messaging services with its IT infrastructure. Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud revealed the initiative, stating that it aims to streamline communication between the court and advocates.

WhatsApp Integration for Judicial Updates

Under this new system, advocates will receive automated WhatsApp messages containing vital information such as cause lists and case filings. Cause lists, which detail the cases scheduled for a particular day's hearing, will now be conveniently accessible on mobile devices as soon as they are published. CJI Chandrachud emphasized the potential impact of this initiative, highlighting the widespread use of WhatsApp as a powerful communication tool in daily life.

Environmental Benefits and Technological Advancements

Government's Commitment to Digitization

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta praised the initiative as a revolutionary step, echoing the government's commitment to digitizing the judiciary. CJI Chandrachud reaffirmed the government's support for this endeavor, mentioning the allocation of Rs. 7,000 crore for the e-court project.

Official WhatsApp Channel

The Supreme Court has provided an official WhatsApp number for receiving updates, emphasizing that it will not accept messages or calls. This move reflects the court's dedication to leveraging technology to enhance transparency and efficiency in the judicial system.

The integration of WhatsApp messaging services marks a significant milestone in the Supreme Court's journey toward a more digitally-driven and accessible judiciary.
