Chaos in Parbhani over insult of Ambedkar's statue, policemen injured in stone pelting

Violence broke out in Parbhani, Maharashtra on Wednesday. After the incident of stone pelting and arson, a large number of police forces have been deployed in the area. A bandh has been called in Parbhani today. In view of the bandh, there is also large-scale deployment of police everywhere.

But in the meantime, people took to the streets to protest against tearing of the symbolic constitution book placed in front of the Ambedkar statue.

Violence broke out in Parbhani, Maharashtra

They raised slogans and blocked the Parbhani Nanded highway by burning tyres. The protesters pelted stones and committed arson. Several policemen have been injured in the violence.

Many vehicles and shops have been vandalized. Rioters and police are face to face. Riot Control Police and SRPF have been deployed. The protesters demand that those who insult the Constitution should be hanged.

Tear gas shells were fired to control situation

A large number of vehicles have been damaged by the violent mob by arson on Basmat Road and Khanapur Phata. There have been incidents of stone pelting and burning of vehicles in front of shops at major markets of the city, Station Road, Gandhi Park, Shivaji Chowk etc.

These rioters have caused massive damage to the signboards of shops in the city. The rioters broke the CCTVs installed in front of the shops by throwing sticks and stones.

How did the violence start?

The violence in Parbhani started when a man named Sopan Dattarao Pawar allegedly tore a replica of the Constitution placed in front of the statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar in the city on Tuesday. Meanwhile a citywide bandh was called soon after the news comes in the light.

Prakash Ambedkar, president of Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, said, it is absolutely shameful that the Constitution of India was vandalised on Babasaheb’s statue by casteist Maratha miscreants in Parbhani. This is not the first time that Babasaheb’s statue or a symbol of Dalit identity has been vandalised.
