The Supreme Court's order against arbitrary bulldozer action is being considered the biggest setback for the UP government. In UP itself, bulldozer action against the accused and the guilty person was started for the first time in 2017. Gradually this trend of action started in different states of the country.

Bulldozer action started from UP in 2017. UP CM Yogi Adityanath made bulldozer action his trend mark. In such a situation, now after the Supreme Court's decision, it is being considered a setback for Yogi. That too before the 2027 assembly elections.

Supreme Court's order against UP government

Although Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had also made the bulldozer his election symbol in the 2022 rally. A bulldozer was kept in every rally of his and Yogi used to appeal to the people by showing it.

SC's decision is a setback for Yogi also because

According to reports, from 2017 to 2024, more than 1900 bulldozer actions have been taken across the country. Of these, the maximum bulldozer actions have been taken in UP.

In the last 7 years, about 1500 bulldozer actions have been taken in Uttar Pradesh.

According to the UP government, all these actions have been taken on illegal construction.

At the same time, the petitioners said that the bulldozer action was taken after seeing the Muslim accused.

While bulldozer action in UP, the BJP government has got immediate relief regarding crime control. For example, the government which went on the backfoot due to the collapse of the accused's house would immediately come on the front foot. Due to this, the government never got surrounded despite increasing crime.

Highlights of SC decision 

Now the Supreme Court's decision has increased the tension of the government. Now the Yogi government will have to find another strong way to control crime.

Bulldozer action also made Yogi Adityanath's image a tough administrator. He was given the title of Bulldozer Baba in political circles.

Recently, on the uproar over the bulldozer action, UP CM had said that it takes heart and courage to run it.

Not only this, though CM has been boasting about the bulldozer action in every rally. The audience has also been clapping a lot on his description, but now after the Supreme Court decision, Yogi Adityanath will have to take some other measures to strengthen his image.

Assembly elections are to be held in UP after 2 years from now. In such a situation, it is a matter of more tension for the government.

 Though Muslims in Uttar Pradesh were not vocal due to the bulldozer action. Now they will be politically vocal and will play a big role in the 2027 elections. This can also prove to be a political setback for the BJP government.

Not only this, CMs of other BJP states were taking forward the bulldozer action after seeing Yogi Adityanath. Due to this, Yogi Adityanath was taking lead in BJP politics in comparison to other Chief Ministers across the country.

Recently, the Supreme Court had given its verdict against a bulldozer action in Maharajganj, UP. The court had ordered the government and its officials to give compensation of 25 lakhs to the victim's family.

In such a situation, the UP government will not be able to directly say that the bulldozer was run only on illegal construction.

Understand Supreme Court verdict

In the meanwhile, issuing a guideline of 15 points, the Supreme Court has talked about banning the bulldozer action. The court said that the right to shelter is a fundamental right, and no official can abolish it.

SC bench headed by Justice BR Gavai, while giving the verdict, said that neither the state nor the executive has the right to convict the accused person.

The Supreme Court said in its decision that if someone's house is demolished without following the rules, strict action will be taken against the concerned officials. The court has said that a fine should be recovered from the same officials for compensation.

While giving the verdict under Article 142, the Supreme Court has said that all the states should issue a circulation regarding bulldozer action and instruct their officials. Not doing so would be an insult to the court.
