Congress MP and Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring says, "We demand that the government allocate space for the memorial. If space can be given for Atal Bihari Vajpayee's memorial, then why not for Manmohan Singh. If a memorial is built, then the coming generations will get inspiration from it."
Congress intensifies demand for memorial
Regarding the memorial site, senior Congress leader Sushil Kumar Shinde has said, "He was a noble person. He was an important Prime Minister of our country. He used to listen to everyone and talk about the poor. He implemented Aadhar card in the country. We will fight for him."
On this issue, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has said, "He worked for the country and its people. He took care of every section of the country. This is the need of the hour. I hope that the government will get the right idea and fulfill the request of the Congress party."
Sharmistha Mukherjee raised questions on the Congress party
However, on this issue, Sharmistha Mukherjee, daughter of former President and Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee, has raised questions on the Congress party. Sharmishtha Mukherjee wrote on social media, "When Baba died, the Congress party did not even call a meeting of the Working Committee to express condolences. A senior leader told me that this does not happen for presidents."This is complete nonsense, because as I later came to know from Baba's diary, a meeting of the Congress Working Committee was called after the death of KR Narayanan, and his condolence message was prepared by Baba himself."

What did the Home Ministry say
Earlier on Friday, the Home Ministry had said in a press release that it had received a request from the Congress President to allocate space for the memorial of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.This release said, "Immediately after the cabinet meeting, Home Minister Amit Shah told the Congress President and the former Prime Minister's family that the government would provide space for the memorial. In the meantime, his last rites and other rituals can be completed as a trust has to be formed and land has to be allotted for the memorial.
Kharge wrote in his letter
On Friday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge wrote a letter to Prime Minister Modi on this issue and said that in honor of the former Prime Minister, his last rites should be performed at the place where his memorial can be built. Dear Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I am writing this letter in connection with the sad demise of former Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh. In our telephonic conversation, I have expressed my condolences to this great leader." In this letter, Kharge also wrote about the contribution and achievements of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
He also mentioned in his letter how Manmohan Singh brought the country out of the financial crisis while being the finance minister. He also said that his policies are taking the country towards economic prosperity and stability. Kharge said, "I hope and believe that keeping in mind the high status of Dr. Manmohan Singh, the request given in the letter will be accepted.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh died on Thursday night at AIIMS Hospital in Delhi. From there, his body was kept at his residence '3, Motilal Nehru Marg' in Delhi.
