CPL 2025: Trinbago Knight Riders extended their red-hot form in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, notching up their fourth successive win and fifth overall in six games. The win gave them a two-point cushion at the top of the table, strengthening their position as tournament favorites.

Guyana Struggle to Post 163

Opting to bowl first, TKR made early inroads through Mohammad Amir and Akeal Hosein, restricting Guyana to 37/3 in the PowerPlay. Hosein was the star with the ball, finishing with 3/27 and dismissing key batters, including Shimron Hetmyer. Despite a fighting 39 from Shai Hope and a late flourish from debutant Quentin Simpson and Dwayne Pretorius, Guyana could only manage 163/9 in 20 overs.

Narine, Hosein Apply Pressure

Sunil Narine’s spell of 1/17 in four overs kept Guyana under pressure, while Hosein’s double strike in the middle overs broke their momentum. Hope’s bizarre dismissal—knocking over his own stumps while reverse-sweeping—summed up Guyana’s frustrating night.

Hales, Munro Power Chase

In reply, Alex Hales and Colin Munro blew away Guyana’s bowling attack with a blistering 115-run stand. The pair smashed 77 runs inside the PowerPlay, putting TKR in complete control. Munro scored a rapid 52 off 30, while Hales top-scored with a breathtaking 74 off 43 balls, smashing seven sixes.

Tahir’s Triple Breakthrough

Veteran Imran Tahir provided a glimmer of hope for Guyana with a stunning over that saw him claim three wickets—Munro, Nicholas Pooran (first ball), and Keacy Carty. His spell of 4/27 was the only highlight for Guyana in an otherwise one-sided contest.

Pollard, Russell Finish the Job

Despite Hales’ dismissal, skipper Kieron Pollard and powerhouse Andre Russell ensured there were no hiccups, guiding TKR to 169/4 in 17.2 overs, sealing a comfortable six-wicket victory with 16 balls to spare.
