France, Argentina, Austria, and Germany dominated the opening day of Davis Cup 2025 qualifiers, moving within touching distance of the Final 8. Meanwhile, the USA and Czech Republic are level after Taylor Fritz’s strong comeback win in Delray Beach.

Davis Cup 2025: Debutant Corentin Moutet gave France the perfect start in Osijek by beating Dino Prizmic 6-4, 5-7, 6-1. Later, Arthur Rinderknech defeated 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic 6-4, 6-4, giving France a 2-0 lead. One more win in Saturday’s rubbers will seal their place in Bologna.

Argentina Crush Netherlands

In Groningen, Argentina surged ahead with Tomas Etcheverry beating Jesper De Jong 6-4, 6-4, followed by Francisco Cerundolo’s commanding 7-6(1), 6-1 win over Botic van de Zandschulp. The Netherlands must win all remaining matches to stay alive.

Austria Surprise Hungary

Austria pulled off a shock 2-0 lead in Debrecen. Jurij Rodionov stunned world No. 56 Fabian Marozsan 6-2, 6-7(5), 7-5, while Lukas Neumayer edged Marton Fucsovics 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(7). The underdogs are now just one win away from qualification.

Germany Too Strong for Japan

In Tokyo, Jan-Lennard Struff battled past Yoshihito Nishioka in three sets before Yannick Hanfmann eased past Shintaro Mochizuki to give Germany a commanding lead.

USA, Czech Republic Tied

In Delray Beach, Taylor Fritz leveled the tie with a 6-4, 6-3 win over world No. 17 Jakub Mensik after Jiri Lehecka had earlier beaten Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 6-2. Fritz said, “It feels great to deliver for Team USA in front of a fantastic crowd.”
