The Congress party is set for a major leadership revamp in Delhi after failing to secure any seats in the 2020 Assembly elections. This marks the third consecutive election where the party suffered a complete defeat. To revive its influence, Congress has decided to restructure its district and booth-level leadership within the next four months.

New Faces to Lead the Way

The restructuring will introduce new leaders across Delhi’s 14 districts and 250 blocks. The party is emphasizing youth and women’s participation in leadership roles. Senior Congress leaders will guide and mentor these new representatives to strengthen the party’s base.

Reviving Congress in Delhi

The Congress party once ruled Delhi for 15 years under former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. However, in recent years, its support base has declined significantly. The latest restructuring aims to restore its grassroots presence by assigning leaders to new roles based on constituency needs.

Fresh Strategy for Future Elections

Despite the setbacks, Congress saw a slight increase in its vote share in the last Assembly elections. However, most of its candidates lost their deposits, with only a few managing to make a mark. Leaders like Delhi unit chief Devender Yadav and Abhishek Dutt were among the exceptions, with Dutt securing second place in his constituency.

The party also failed to win any seats in the last three Lok Sabha elections. With this restructuring, Congress hopes to regain its lost ground and re-establish its presence in Delhi politics.
