Delhi Election 2025: The counting of votes for the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 has begun, and early trends indicate a close fight between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the BJP. AAP, which has ruled Delhi since 2015, is confident of retaining power, but its key leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Atishi, are currently trailing.

Arvind Kejriwal Faces Tough Competition in New Delhi

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is contesting from the New Delhi Assembly seat, where he is currently behind BJP’s Parvesh Verma. His close aide Manish Sisodia, the former Education Minister, is trailing from Jangpura. Atishi, another key leader of AAP, is behind BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri in Kalkaji.

Some AAP Leaders Maintain Lead

Despite early setbacks, some AAP candidates are leading:

  • Amanatullah Khan, a two-time MLA from Okhla, is ahead in his constituency.
  • Delhi minister Gopal Rai is leading in his seat.
  • Satyendar Jain, out on bail in a money laundering case, is leading from Babarpur.

Tough Battle for AAP Newcomers

AAP’s new face Avadh Ojha, an IAS exam coach who recently joined the party, is trailing in Patparganj, a seat previously held by Manish Sisodia. Durgesh Pathak, contesting from Rajinder Nagar, is also behind.

AAP Confident Despite Early Trends

Delhi voted on February 5, 2025, to elect 70 assembly members. AAP campaigned on its "Delhi model" of governance, countering BJP’s corruption allegations.

Despite the early trends, Atishi remains confident, calling this election a fight between good and evil. Her cabinet colleague Saurabh Bharadwaj predicts that AAP will secure at least 40-45 seats.

As the counting progresses, the final results will reveal whether AAP can retain power or if BJP will make a comeback in Delhi after 25 years.
