Delhi Election Results: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a huge victory in the Delhi elections, increasing its seat count by nearly 40. This landslide win also resulted in major losses for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), with five of its top leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, suffering defeat.

Key AAP Leaders Who Lost:

1. Arvind Kejriwal

AAP’s national convener and former Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, entered politics as a leader of the anti-corruption movement. After serving as CM in 2013 for a short period, he led AAP to big wins in 2015 and 2020. However, in 2023, he was arrested in a corruption case related to Delhi’s liquor policy. After securing bail, he resigned as CM, stating that he would return only if the "people’s court" supported him. He lost to BJP’s Parvesh Verma in the New Delhi seat.

2. Manish Sisodia

Former Deputy Chief Minister and Kejriwal’s close aide, Manish Sisodia, lost to BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah in Jangpura. A three-time MLA from Patparganj, Sisodia changed his constituency this time but failed to secure victory. Arrested in 2023 in the same liquor policy case, he spent nearly 1.5 years in jail before getting bail.

3. Saurabh Bharadwaj

A prominent AAP leader, Saurabh Bharadwaj had won the Greater Kailash seat three times since 2013. However, this time he lost to BJP’s Shikha Roy. A minister in the Delhi government, Bharadwaj managed key departments like home, power, and water supply. His seat was considered a stronghold for AAP, but BJP overturned expectations.

4. Durgesh Pathak

AAP leader Durgesh Pathak, a member of the party’s national executive, contested from Rajinder Nagar but lost to BJP’s Umang Bajaj. Pathak had previously won the seat in a 2022 by-election, but could not retain it this time.

5. Avadh Ojha

Popular IAS coach-turned-politician Avadh Ojha joined AAP before the elections and contested from Patparganj, a seat previously won by Manish Sisodia three times. However, Ojha lost to BJP’s Ravinder Singh Negi by over 28,000 votes.

BJP ’s Victory Sparks Celebrations

With the latest trends showing BJP securing 49 of the 70 seats, party supporters erupted in celebrations outside the Delhi headquarters. BJP workers danced to dhol beats, waved party flags, and smeared saffron-colored powder in jubilation.

This election marks a major political shift in Delhi, where AAP had previously dominated for over a decade. With its top leaders facing defeat, AAP now faces the challenge of rebuilding its position in the capital.
