Delhi Weather: Cold, pollution & fog wreak havoc in Delhi, alert issued for next 2 days

The Meteorological Department said that minimum temperature in Delhi has dropped to 7 degrees Celsius. At the same time, according to CPCB, pollution remains dangerous

Delhi Weather Update: The effect of snowfall in the mountains is being seen in the plains. Fog is being seen along with the fall in temperature. An orange alert of fog has been issued in the national capital Delhi today (December 19) and tomorrow (December 20). The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Saturday. Some areas of Delhi will remain foggy from this morning itself.

Meanwhile the Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the minimum temperature in the capital has dropped to 7 degrees Celsius. And the minimum temperature in Delhi is likely to be 8 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature 23 degrees Celsius.

According to the CPCB, the level of pollution in Delhi remains dangerous on Thursday. The Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 478 at six in the morning. AQI 'very severe' in 32 centers.

On Wednesday, the level of pollution remained dangerous and at 6 pm, AQI was recorded at 448, which reached close to the 'very severe' category. Out of 36 monitoring centers in the national capital, 32 recorded air quality in the 'very severe' category and at many places the AQI crossed 480. The remaining centers described the air quality as 'severe'.

According to news agency PTI, air quality was recorded in the 'very severe' category in areas like Anand Vihar, Bawana, Burari, Dwarka, ITO, Jahangirpuri, North Campus DU. According to the multi-level warnings of CPCB, an AQI of 400 or more requires immediate attention. According to experts, due to the decrease in wind speed, local pollutants are accumulating in the atmosphere, due to which the air quality in Delhi has become toxic for the last few days.

Temperature one degree below normal

The maximum temperature in Delhi on Wednesday was 23 degrees Celsius, which was slightly above normal, but the evening felt colder than expected. The minimum temperature was recorded at 7.6 degrees Celsius, which is one degree below normal.

The national capital is still under the fourth phase of the 'Graded Response Action Plan' (GRAP) and it includes a ban on construction activities and a ban on the entry of non-essential polluting trucks into Delhi.
