Diwali Holidays 2025: Check School Closure Dates in Your State
Diwali Holidays 2025: In Karnataka, schools will remain closed from October 8 to 18, 2025, to facilitate the ongoing state social and educational survey, popularly known as the caste survey. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah extended the break as the survey faced delays in some districts. While Koppal district has completed 97% of the survey, Udupi (63%) and Dakshina Kannada (60%) are still catching up. Teachers currently involved in mid-term exams are exempt from survey duties.

Rajasthan: 12-Day Diwali Holiday
The Education Department of Rajasthan has declared Diwali holidays from October 13 to 24, 2025. This 12-day festive break gives students and teachers a long opportunity to celebrate and spend time with their families, as the state lights up for one of India’s biggest festivals.
Uttar Pradesh: Shorter Diwali Break
In Uttar Pradesh, schools will observe a Diwali holiday from October 20 to 23, 2025. Including the October 18–19 weekend, students effectively get five days off to celebrate the festival of lights. Schools are expected to resume normal classes after the celebrations.
Bihar: Diwali and Chhath Puja Holidays
Schools in Bihar will also remain closed from October 20 onwards, covering both Diwali and Chhath Puja festivities. The break allows families to participate in traditional rituals and events associated with both festivals, making it one of the longest holiday periods for students in the region.
Other States Likely to Follow
Many other states are also expected to declare Diwali holidays around the same period. Students can make the most of this break — enjoy time with family, take part in celebrations, or catch up on pending lessons and upcoming exam preparations.
Parents are advised to check exact holiday schedules with individual schools, as dates may vary by district or board.
