Eknath Shinde, who is set to take oath as Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister today, will meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah post the swearing-in ceremony to discuss key portfolios, including the crucial home ministry.

Key Announcement by Shiv Sena

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Shirsat confirmed that the meeting with Amit Shah will play a pivotal role in deciding the allocation of important ministerial positions.
“After the swearing-in ceremony, Eknath Shinde will meet Amit Shah, and decisions regarding the home portfolio and other posts will be finalized,” Shirsat stated.

Shiv Sena’s Demand for the Home Portfolio

The Shiv Sena has been pushing for Eknath Shinde to secure the home ministry, a key position in the new government. Shinde initially vied for the Chief Minister’s post, citing the BJP’s arrangement with Nitish Kumar in Bihar, but later agreed to back the BJP’s choice for CM.

Political Developments Leading Up to Today

Last week, amidst power-sharing discussions, Shinde abruptly left Mumbai for Thane, citing health issues, but returned to the capital on Tuesday. The BJP announced Devendra Fadnavis as the Mahayuti alliance’s CM candidate on Wednesday, resolving weeks of speculation.

Swearing-In Ceremony

The swearing-in ceremony will take place in Mumbai later today.

  • Chief Minister: Devendra Fadnavis
  • Deputy Chief Ministers: Eknath Shinde (Shiv Sena) and Ajit Pawar (NCP)

Shiv Sena leader Uday Samant confirmed the news, stating that discussions with Fadnavis had been fruitful.
“Eknath Shinde will join as Deputy CM. Devendra Fadnavis provided a letter confirming this, which I will now submit to the governor,” said Samant outside Raj Bhavan.

Election Results

The Mahayuti alliance won a landslide victory in the Maharashtra assembly elections held in November. The alliance secured 235 out of 288 seats, with the following distribution:

  • BJP: 130+ seats
  • Shiv Sena: 60+ seats
  • NCP: Remaining seats
