Eknath Shinde Oath: Ending days of speculation, Shiv Sena leader Uday Samant confirmed on Thursday that Eknath Shinde, the outgoing Chief Minister, will take the oath as Deputy Chief Minister (CM) in the BJP-led Mahayuti government. Samant revealed that discussions with Devendra Fadnavis culminated in a written assurance about Shinde's role, which he presented to Governor C P Radhakrishnan.

Background of the Decision

The decision followed a period of negotiations and dissent. Shiv Sena workers had strongly advocated for Shinde to assume a prominent position. Despite earlier reservations, Shinde agreed to the Deputy CM post. Samant clarified that there are no disputes regarding portfolio allocations, which will be decided collectively by the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP leaders.

Dual Deputy CMs

Joining Shinde in the Deputy CM role will be NCP leader Ajit Pawar. This dual leadership marks a significant power-sharing agreement within the Mahayuti alliance.

Swearing-In Ceremony

The swearing-in ceremony for the new government will take place at Azad Maidan in Mumbai on December 5 at 5:30 PM. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers, BJP leaders, and Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states will be in attendance.

Shinde’s Initial Hesitation

Earlier reports suggested that Shinde was reluctant to take the Deputy CM post, following discussions in Delhi. He later addressed the media from his native village in Satara, assuring that he would not obstruct the BJP’s choice for the CM post.
