FIR Registered Against School: In a concerning incident near Thane city, Maharashtra, an FIR has been filed against a private school management after 45 children fell ill, suspected to be due to food poisoning. This situation arose following the consumption of the mid-day meal at the school.
Children Hospitalized
On Tuesday, 38 students aged between 8 and 11 were admitted to a civic hospital in Kalwa. They exhibited symptoms like dizziness, nausea, headaches, and abdominal pain after lunch. By late Tuesday night, seven other children were hospitalized, bringing the total to 45.
Police Action
The Kalwa police took action after receiving a complaint from a parent. An FIR was registered against both the school management and the food supplier under section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which addresses negligence that endangers life. The police have not made any arrests yet and are currently investigating the matter. The health of the children is being monitored, according to Dr. Aniruddha Malgaonkar, the medical in-charge of the hospital.
Health Updates
Out of the 45 children, 37 are reported to be in good health. They are expected to be discharged around 5 PM after completing a 24-hour observation period. However, the remaining 8 children are experiencing symptoms like fever and vomiting and will need to stay under observation for an additional 12 hours.
Mid-Day Meal Details
TMC Additional Commissioner Sandeep Malvi confirmed that the children had eaten a mid-day meal at the private school. Reports indicate that the meal consisted of rice and moth bean (matki) curry. The FDA officials have collected food samples served to the students for testing.
Emergency Response
Initially, 5 students reported feeling unwell, but the situation escalated quickly. The school administration promptly called for ambulances to transport the children to the hospital. Parents were present at the hospital to support their children during this troubling time.
