Forbes has released its 2024 list of 'India’s 100 Richest,' revealing that the combined wealth of the country’s billionaires has crossed the $1 trillion mark, reaching $1.1 trillion. This is double their total worth from 2019, with an increase of $316 billion in just the past year.

Major Wealth Growth

Over 80% of the richest Indians have seen an increase in their wealth, with 58 individuals adding $1 billion or more to their net worth. The top 12 on the list account for nearly half of the total wealth of the top 100.

Top 10 Richest in India

1. Mukesh Ambani (Reliance Industries) - $119.5 billion

Largest increase this year: $27.5 billion

2.Gautam Adani (Adani Group) - $116 billion

Biggest gainer overall: $48 billion

3.Savitri Jindal (Metals and Mining) - $43.7 billion

Richest woman in India

4.Shiv Nadar (HLC Enterprise) - $40.2 billion

5.Dilip Shanghvi (Sun Pharmaceuticals) - $32.4 billion

6.Radhakishan Damani - $31.5 billion

7.Sunil Mittal - $30.7 billion

8.Kumar Birla - $24.8 billion

9.Cyrus Poonawalla - $24.5 billion

10.Bajaj Family - $23.4 billion

New Faces on the List

Mahima Datla, head of Biological E, is the newest woman to join the top 100. Other newcomers include B Partha Saradhi Reddy (Hetero Labs), Harish Ahuja (Shahi Exports), and Surender Saluja (Premier Energies).

Industries on the Rise

Pharmaceutical and real estate sectors saw significant gains, with notable names like the Godrej family and the Mehta brothers (Torrent Pharmaceuticals) making strides.

Youngest Billionaire

The youngest person on the list is Nikhil Kamath (38), co-founder of brokerage platform Zerodha.

Notable Absence

Ratan Tata, who passed away on October 9, is not included in this year’s list.

Forbes’ 'India’s 100 Richest' list differs from the 'World’s Billionaires' list, as it combines family fortunes for ranking. The list was compiled using financial data from families, stock exchanges, and regulatory agencies in India. It also includes foreign citizens with ties to India.
