Short Trading Week for Investors

This week was already short for traders. Markets were closed on April 14 for Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti and remained open only from April 15 to April 17. With today's holiday, the trading week had just three working days.

MCX Also Closed for the Day

The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) is also shut for both its morning and evening sessions. No trading in commodities like gold, silver, or crude oil will happen today.

Upcoming Stock Market Holidays in 2025

With today’s holiday, April’s trading breaks are done. The next market holiday will be on May 1 for Maharashtra Day. Other upcoming holidays include August 15 (Independence Day), August 27 (Ganesh Chaturthi), and three holidays in October — Gandhi Jayanti (Oct 2), Diwali (Oct 21), and Diwali Balipratipada (Oct 22).

Market Outlook for Next Week

According to Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services, markets ended this short week on a high note. Positive cues like strong foreign investments, a good monsoon forecast, and easing US tariffs boosted investor sentiment. Banking stocks especially performed well, thanks to lower deposit rates.

However, Nair also warned of potential risks. He said company earnings for the last quarter of FY25 might be weaker due to low demand and shrinking margins. He advised investors to be cautious, especially with export-based stocks, and to focus more on domestic sectors like banking, healthcare, and infrastructure.

What Will Drive the Market Next Week?

Experts say that investor focus will now shift to quarterly earnings reports and company management commentary. These will decide the short-term market trends.
