Govardhan Puja is one of the big festivals of India which is celebrated on the next day of Diwali. Though it is also called Annakoot Puja. It has special significance. Especially in the states of North India like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana.

Annakoot and Govardhan are worshipped on Kartik Shukla Pratipada Tithi, the second day of Diwali. Mainly, this is the worship of nature which was started by Lord Krishna.

On this day, Govardhan mountain is worshiped as the basis of nature and cow is worshiped as the basis of society. This worship started from Braj and gradually became popular in India.

Auspicious times for worship

The story behind this is that instead of worshiping Indra, Lord Krishna got Govardhan mountain worshipped. And when Braj was submerged, Lord Krishna protected the people of Braj by lifting Govardhan mountain.

Govardhan Puja Shubh Muhurat

According to the Udayatithi, this time the festival of Govardhan and Annakoot will be celebrated on 2 November only.

Muhurta - from 3:23 pm to 5:35 pm.

Muhurta - from 5:35 pm to 6:01 pm.

Govardhan Pujan Vidhi

Make the shape of Govardhan mountain with cow dung at the main entrance of the house. Also, surround that mountain and make the shape of cowherd, trees and plants around it. After that, put the idol or picture of Lord Krishna in the middle of Govardhan mountain. After this, worship Govardhan mountain and Lord Krishna.

After worshiping, pray for your wishes. After this, offer Panchamrit and dishes to Lord Krishna. It is believed that those who pray to Govardhan mountain on this day, their problems related to children end.

Puja Katha of Govardhan

While the religious belief behind doing Govardhan Puja is that Lord Krishna wanted to shatter the pride of Indra. For this, he lifted Govardhan mountain on his little finger and protected the people of Gokul from Indra. It is believed that after this, Lord Krishna himself ordered to worship Govardhan mountain by making 56 offerings on the day of Kartik Shukla Pratipada. Since then, the tradition of Govardhan Puja is still prevalent and every year the festival of Govardhan Puja and Annakoot is celebrated

Importance of Annakoot on the day of Govardhan Puja

On this day, devotees offer various kinds of sweets and dishes to Lord Krishna. Not only this, on this day 56 dishes are prepared and offered to Lord Krishna and these 56 types of dishes are called Annakoot.

The Pratipada date of Govardhan Puja started at 6:16 pm on November 1 and it will end at 8:21 pm on November 2.
