Harsh Sanghavi ’s Political Rise
Known for his strong public connect, Harsh Sanghavi earned this promotion after a landslide victory in the 2022 Assembly elections, where he defeated his AAP opponent by over one lakh votes. His elevation as Deputy Chief Minister is being viewed as recognition of his growing influence within Gujarat BJP and his leadership potential for the party’s future.
Mix of Experience and New Energy
The new Gujarat Cabinet brings together a blend of experienced leaders and fresh faces. Six ministers retained their positions, including Rishikesh Patel, Kanubhai Desai, Kunwarji Bavaliya, Praful Panseria, Parshottam Solanki, and Sanghavi himself. Four of them retained their portfolios and did not retake oath, ensuring continuity in governance while welcoming new talent.
19 New Ministers Inducted
In a strong show of inclusivity, 19 new leaders joined the cabinet — among them Trikam Chhang, Swaroopji Thakor, Praveen Mali, PC Baranda, Darshana Vaghela, Arjun Modhwadia, and Manisha Vakil. This mix of experienced politicians and first-time ministers signals BJP’s focus on regional balance and wider community representation.
Caste and Regional Representation
The caste composition of the new Gujarat Cabinet was carefully structured: 8 OBC ministers, 6 Patidars, 4 tribals, 3 from Scheduled Castes, 2 Kshatriyas, and one each from Brahmin and Jain (Laghumati) communities. This reflects the BJP’s strategy to maintain social equilibrium across Gujarat’s diverse population ahead of upcoming elections.
Largest Cabinet Overhaul Since 2021
This reshuffle marks Gujarat’s biggest cabinet expansion since 2021, when Vijay Rupani and his entire ministry resigned following high-command directives. On Thursday, all 16 ministers except the Chief Minister submitted their resignations, clearing the way for this major reshuffle. The move is seen as a strategic reset to strengthen governance and public outreach.
Bhupendra Patel’s Continued Leadership
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, who took office for a second term on December 12, 2022, continues to lead with stability and renewed focus. With Gujarat’s 182-member Assembly allowing up to 27 ministers, this 25-member team positions the BJP for stronger governance and balanced representation as the state looks toward future challenges and opportunities.
