Heatwave Alert: IMD Warns of Scorching April in Delhi, Bihar, and More States
Heatwave Alert: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that April will be extremely hot this year. States like Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand are expected to face heatwaves for 5 to 6 days. North India may also see 2 to 3 days of extreme heat.

Delhi Feels the Heat: Temperatures Above 40°C
Delhi has been burning under high temperatures. For the past three days, the temperature has crossed 40°C. On Wednesday, Safdarjung weather station recorded 40.5°C, which is 5°C above normal. Night temperatures have also risen to 25.6°C, making even nights uncomfortably hot.
Rain Expected in Delhi, But Not for Long
The IMD has said that rain may bring some relief in Delhi on Thursday and Friday. However, this relief won’t last long as temperatures are expected to rise again after a few days.
Western Disturbance Brings Short Relief
Due to a Western Disturbance, people in North-West India may get a small break from the heat from April 10. Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh may also feel slightly cooler from April 11. But experts warn that the heat will return.
Heatwave Likely in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan on April 14-15
IMD scientist Naresh Kumar said that the heatwave will come back in Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan around April 14 and 15. People in these areas should stay alert and take precautions.
Many Parts of India Cross 43°C
On Wednesday, more than 26 weather stations reported temperatures above 43°C. Kandla in Gujarat was the hottest, with a temperature of 45.6°C — the highest this season so far.
Hot Days Ahead for East India
According to IMD, East India could face 10 to 12 days of heatwave between April and June. The first official heatwave of 2025 was recorded on April 5, but signs of unusual heat were already visible in late February.
