Uber Cab Incident: A recent incident involving a 24-year-old woman in Delhi has brought the issue of women's safety in cabs back into the spotlight. In a Reddit post, the woman shared her harrowing experience of receiving threats from an Uber driver while she was returning home late at night. Her story has sparked a discussion online, with many women sharing similar troubling experiences.

The Incident: Disturbing Encounter with the Uber Driver

The woman, who often uses Uber to travel at night, explained that she usually opts for cabs due to her location on the outskirts of Delhi, where the metro is not convenient. On Friday, at around 10:30 pm, she noticed the driver watching her through the rearview mirror and soon after, he began asking personal questions. He hinted at his discomfort with picking up female passengers late at night, stating that "if you were a guy, I wouldn’t have picked you up."

As their journey continued, the driver made several alarming comments, suggesting that women who travel alone at night “invite trouble.” For safety, the woman had shared her ride details with her mother, who was tracking her location. But things took a terrifying turn when the driver chillingly remarked, “If I were to do anything to you in five minutes, do you think your mother could come and help you?”

Past Incidents and Growing Concerns

The woman safely reached home and immediately reported the incident to Uber’s customer care, adding her voice to the many who have faced similar challenges. This incident is not an isolated case. Back in 2014, another woman was assaulted by an Uber driver in Delhi, leading to temporary bans on cab services like Uber and Ola. Unfortunately, these issues continue, highlighting an ongoing challenge for women’s safety in public transport.
