IMD Issues Alerts for Heavy Rainfall Across Several States
IMD Issues Alerts: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts due to expected heavy rainfall. An orange alert has been declared for Gujarat, Karnataka, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, while a yellow alert is in effect for several other states.
Gujarat’s Flooding Situation
Red Alert
The IMD has placed a red alert in the Saurashtra and Kutch regions of Gujarat due to ongoing heavy rains. The state is experiencing severe flooding, with significant waterlogging and inundation affecting daily life.
Rescue Operations
The Indian Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are actively involved in rescue and search missions. Reports indicate that seven people have died due to rain-related incidents. Over 15,000 residents have been evacuated, and more than 300 people have been rescued from various districts.

Heavy rains have caused severe traffic congestion and disrupted train and flight services.
Forecast for Gujarat
August 28-30
The IMD predicts heavy rainfall in north Gujarat on August 28 and 29, with extremely heavy rainfall expected in Saurashtra and Kutch until August 30. Heavy rains are also likely in South Gujarat until August 31.
Government Response
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has reviewed the situation through a video conference. He advised people to avoid approaching overflowing rivers, streams, or lakes. Currently, 15 rivers, 21 lakes, and reservoirs are overflowing due to the heavy rains.
