India’s Achievements in Art
This year’s Doodle, created by Makarand Narkar and Sonal Vasave of Boomranng Studio, highlights milestones including space missions, world chess titles, cricket triumphs, and international film accolades. The six tiles in the design each draw inspiration from distinct regional art styles, such as Jaipur blue pottery from Rajasthan and terracotta relief from West Bengal.
A Tribute to Cultural Diversity
Beyond celebrating national achievements, the Doodle reflects India’s rich cultural diversity. Each tile is uniquely styled, making the artwork both a tribute to the country’s creativity and a nod to its unity in diversity.
Google’s Past Independence Day Tributes
In 2024, Google’s Doodle focused on India’s architectural heritage. Created by Vrinda Zaveri, it featured six intricately designed doors and windows in vibrant hues of blue, yellow, green, saffron, and brown — along with a small depiction of the Indian Peacock, the national bird.
The Story of Google Doodles
A Google Doodle is a special version of the search engine’s logo, altered to celebrate important occasions, notable figures, or cultural moments. The tradition began in 1998, when Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin used a Burning Man graphic to indicate they were away. By 2000, the first international Doodle appeared for Bastille Day in France. In 2010, Google launched its first interactive game Doodle for Pac-Man’s 30th anniversary.
