India Blocks China’s Global Times X Account for Spreading Fake News
India has blocked the official X (formerly Twitter) account of Global Times, a state-run Chinese media outlet. The reason behind this move was the publication of false claims regarding Operation Sindoor, a military mission aimed at destroying terrorist bases across the border.

Indian Embassy Warns Global Times
Earlier this week, the Indian Embassy in Beijing publicly criticized Global Times. In a post on X, the Embassy advised the outlet to fact-check their reports before spreading misinformation. It said, “Dear @globaltimesnews, we would recommend you verify your facts and cross-examine your sources before pushing out this kind of disinformation.”
Misinformation Spread by Pro-Pakistan Social Media Accounts
The Embassy also highlighted that many social media accounts supporting Pakistan were spreading fake claims about the Indian Army’s losses. These false stories were shared without proper fact-checking, which the Embassy called a “serious lapse in responsibility and journalistic ethics.”
Global Times Account Now Withheld in India
After this action, the official X account of Global Times shows the message, “Account Withheld. @globaltimesnews has been withheld in IN in response to a legal demand.”
India’s Fight Against Fake News
India’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) has been actively identifying fake news, images, and videos—many of which were edited or taken from old events. These were used to mislead the public, especially after tensions in the region increased.
India Responds to China’s Arunachal Claims
On the same day, India strongly rejected China's new efforts to rename places in Arunachal Pradesh.
“Arunachal Pradesh was, is, and will always remain an integral part of India,” said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
In 2024, China had released a list of 30 renamed locations in Arunachal, which India completely rejected as baseless.
