India vs Pakistan Hockey Clash Confirmed in FIH Pro League 2025-26

The 2025-26 FIH Pro League will witness two much-awaited encounters between India and Pakistan. Pakistan accepted the International Hockey Federation’s (FIH) invitation to participate after New Zealand withdrew despite qualifying for the event.

Pakistan Replaces New Zealand

New Zealand had secured a spot in the Pro League after winning the FIH Nations Cup 2024 in Malaysia. However, Hockey New Zealand declined the invitation, leading FIH to extend the opportunity to runner-up Pakistan, which has now confirmed its participation.

Teams in the Competition

Pakistan joins Argentina, Australia, Belgium, England, Germany, India, Netherlands, and Spain in the seventh edition of the Pro League. The team replaces Ireland, which was relegated after finishing at the bottom of the previous season.

Pakistan’s Return After Years

This marks Pakistan’s first appearance since 2019, when it was suspended from the inaugural edition after failing to play its first three matches. Their return adds both history and excitement, given the nation’s rich hockey legacy.

FIH President Welcomes Pakistan

FIH President Tayyab Ikram expressed his delight, calling Pakistan’s comeback “a truly impactful milestone for world hockey.” He added that their participation will boost the visibility and global reach of the Pro League while also showcasing the success of FIH’s pathway system through the Nations Cup.

Matches Likely at Neutral Venue

Interestingly, Pakistan had recently refused to travel to India for the Asia Cup 2025, citing security concerns. Therefore, the India vs Pakistan Pro League fixtures are likely to be held at neutral venues, ensuring the rivalry continues despite political hurdles.
