Indian national died in Canada, Chandigarh:  A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Vancouver, Canada, where a 24-year-old youth from Haryana's Sonipat, Chirag Antil, was fatally shot while sitting in his car. The grieving family, residing in Sonipat, is now appealing for assistance from the Indian government to repatriate Chirag's body.

According to Chirag's family, the tragic incident occurred late Friday night in Vancouver, British Columbia, where Chirag resided and worked. Recounting the incident, Chirag's brother, Romit Antil, revealed that Chirag had just finished eating and was about to leave in his car when the fatal shooting occurred.

Romit Antil further explained that Chirag, a recent MBA graduate, was in Canada on a work visa. Describing his last conversation with his brother, Romit shared that Chirag seemed happy and had no known conflicts with anyone. The family is devastated and seeks justice and answers regarding the senseless killing.

The family received notification of Chirag's death from Canadian authorities, who are currently investigating the incident. Despite efforts to gather information, both the family and Chirag's friends in Canada remain in the dark about the circumstances surrounding his death.

Chirag was employed in a manpower security agency at the time of his death. Expressing shock and grief, a relative mentioned that Chirag had moved to Canada in 2022, seeking better opportunities.

In a press release, the Vancouver Police Department confirmed the tragic event, stating that officers responded to reports of gunshots around 11 pm on April 12. Chirag Antil was discovered deceased inside his vehicle. The police have not made any arrests yet and continue to investigate the incident.

Notably, the shooting occurred near the route of Saturday's Vaisakhi parade and festival, adding to the distress of the community. The family, in their plea to the Indian government, hopes for swift assistance in bringing Chirag's body back home for final rites.
