Indian Railways Changes Ticket Booking Rules
The Indian Railways has announced a big change in its ticketing policy. Starting today, November 1, 2024, passengers can now book train tickets only 60 days in advance instead of the previous 120 days. This update aims to make train travel better for real passengers.
Key Details About the Change:
Daytime Trains Exception: Some express trains, like the Taj Express and Gomti Express, will still have shorter advance booking periods.
Foreign Tourists: The booking period for foreign tourists remains unchanged at 365 days.
Current Bookings Safe: If you booked a ticket before October 31, 2024, under the old 120-day rule, your reservation will still be valid. You can cancel tickets booked beyond the new 60-day limit.
Reducing No-Shows: The new policy aims to reduce the number of passengers who book tickets but do not show up, which can lead to issues like fraud. In the past, from 1995 to 1998, the reservation period was as short as 30 days.
New Luggage Rules
In addition to the ticketing changes, the Western Railway has introduced a penalty for passengers whose luggage exceeds the allowed limit. Each passenger can carry a specific amount of luggage without extra charges, but items like scooters and bicycles, or luggage larger than 100 cm x 100 cm x 70 cm, will not be allowed for free.
The Western Railway also urges passengers to avoid crowding at stations and to only enter the premises when necessary, following train schedules and luggage limits.
