JioCinema Appoints New Chief Business Officer
JioCinema, the video streaming service owned by Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries, has appointed Ishan Chatterjee as its new chief business officer. This move highlights the platform’s ambition to grow its digital offerings in India's competitive streaming market.
Ishan Chatterjee's Background
Ishan Chatterjee previously served as managing director at YouTube India, where he played a significant role in its growth. With over 20 years of experience, including 13 years at Google, he brings valuable expertise. Chatterjee has also worked at McKinsey and Hindustan Unilever and holds degrees from The Wharton School and St. Stephen’s College. At JioCinema, he will focus on enhancing revenue from sports and entertainment, particularly targeting small and medium-sized businesses.
Growth of JioCinema
Recently, JioCinema reported surpassing 15 million paying subscribers, as announced at Reliance’s annual general meeting. To attract more users, the platform introduced new subscription plans in April.
Subscription Plans
JioCinema offers a Premium plan for just Rs.29 per month, which provides ad-free content in multiple languages, including original shows and movies. This plan can be accessed on various devices, including connected TVs. Additionally, the platform has a family plan priced at Rs.89 per month, allowing streaming on up to four devices at the same time. Last year, JioCinema introduced a Rs.999 annual plan that features ad-free Hollywood movies as well as programming in local languages.

Financial Performance
Reliance’s media division, which includes JioCinema, generated over Rs.10,000 crore ($1.2 billion) in revenue last year, reflecting a 49% increase. Viacom18, its entertainment arm, saw a remarkable 62% growth, largely driven by sports content. This growth positions JioCinema as a significant player in India's streaming landscape.
