Kerala Rainfall Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in several districts across Kerala on October 26 and 27. Kerala has been experiencing heavy rain for the past three days due to Cyclone Dana in the Bay of Bengal. This weather condition is expected to bring intermittent showers, thunderstorms, and lightning over Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and surrounding regions, likely subsiding after October 27.
Yellow Alert for Kerala Districts
As of today, eight districts in Kerala, including Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Kollam ,Alappuzha, , Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, and Kottayam are under a yellow alert. The heavy rain alert has been downgraded from orange to yellow in these areas, with continued yellow alert warnings for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Alappuzha until October 27.
Advisory for Fishermen and Cyclonic Circulation
A squally weather warning has been issued for the Kerala coast, advising fishermen to avoid going to sea due to anticipated wind speeds of 35-45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph. The IMD also reported a cyclonic circulation over the Southeast Arabian Sea near Kerala’s coast, which extends up to 1.5 km above sea level.
Odisha’s Response to Cyclone Dana
Following Cyclone Dana’s landfall in Odisha on October 24-25, Odisha’s Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, assured the state’s safety, reporting no casualties. However, he noted the damage to 1.75 lakh hectares of crops and some flooding in the Budhabalanga River, which remains below the danger level due to effective team response.
