KKR vs RCB IPL 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Kolkata, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds on March 22, the scheduled day for the IPL 2025 opener. A weather disturbance, including a trough from Odisha to Vidarbha and an anticyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, is causing unstable conditions.

Here’s what the weather forecast looks like for match day:

Morning (6 AM – 12 PM IST): Cloudy skies with light showers, peaking at 66% rain probability around 11 AM.

Afternoon (12 PM – 6 PM IST): Partly sunny, with rain chances dropping to 25%.

Evening (6 PM – 11 PM IST): The toss (7 PM IST) may happen under clear conditions, but rain probability rises to 70% by 11 PM.

The ground staff at Eden Gardens has already taken precautions, keeping the playing surface covered since March 21. Both KKR and RCB had to cut short their practice sessions due to intermittent showers.

Impact on IPL 2025 Opening Ceremony and Match

This match is crucial as Kolkata is hosting the IPL opening ceremony for the first time since 2015, featuring performances by Shreya Ghoshal, Karan Aujla, and Disha Patani. However, rain could affect both the ceremony and the match itself.

KKR, led by Ajinkya Rahane, and RCB, captained by Rajat Patidar, are set for an exciting battle. However, a washout would mean both teams get one point each, which could impact their standings later in the season. If the match is played but rain shortens it, Eden Gardens' drainage system may allow a reduced-over game, altering the pitch dynamics.

Historically, Eden Gardens has been a high-scoring venue, but excessive rain could make it bowler-friendly, benefiting pacers and spinners.

What Happens If KKR vs RCB Is Washed Out?

There are no reserve days for IPL group-stage matches. If rain forces a complete washout, both KKR and RCB will be awarded one point each. This could be disappointing for fans eagerly awaiting the return of IPL action.
