From High in Hong Kong to Low in Shenzhen

Just last week, Lakshya Sen reached the Hong Kong Open final, his first in nearly a year, defeating big names like HS Prannoy and Chou Tien Chen. But in Shenzhen, he could not carry forward that form and crashed out in the very first round.

Popov’s Aggressive Start

Popov dominated right from the beginning, racing to an 11-3 lead in the first game with powerful smashes and sharp net play. Lakshya tried to fight back after the interval but lacked precision, losing the opener quickly.

Frustration in the Second Game

The second game turned worse for Lakshya. At 1-6 down, his frustration showed as he smashed his racket after an error. A controversial line call also went against him, adding to his struggles. Popov controlled the rallies and sealed the win 21-10.

What’s Next for Lakshya Sen?

Lakshya Sen had recently spoken about gaining confidence after Hong Kong, especially after close matches against top players. However, this defeat highlights his inconsistency on tour. To return to form, he will need to build momentum and sharpen his game against aggressive opponents like Popov.
