Mahakumbh 2025

Mahakumbh 2025: On the 14th day of Mahakumbh, Mahant Saurabhgiri, a Naga Baba from Sonipat, Haryana, shared his insights during an exclusive interview with Gujarat First's Channel Head, Dr. Vivek Kumar Bhatt. Saurabhgiri explained the vital role of Naga Babas in upholding Sanatan Dharma and protecting the world from crises.

“Naga Babas are created for the salvation of the world,” he stated. “Becoming a Naga Baba involves Pinddan to Mother Ganga, initiation from a Guru, and standing under the flag of Dharma to serve its protection.” Despite the harsh winter, Naga Babas practice naked penance and intense sadhana, demonstrating their unwavering dedication to their spiritual mission.

Why This Mahakumbh Is Special

This 144th Mahakumbh is an extraordinary event, occurring after 12 cycles of 12-year Kumbhs. “Mahakumbh has been organized for thousands of years and plays a significant role in world salvation. Whoever witnesses this Mahakumbh becomes blessed,” Mahant Saurabhgiri emphasized.

The Mythological Origin of the Kumbh

Sharing the story behind the Kumbh, Mahant Saurabhgiri recounted the mythological tale of the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean). During this cosmic event, Amrit (nectar) was produced for the gods, while demons received meat and liquor. Rahu, a demon, deceitfully consumed the nectar but was decapitated by Lord Vishnu’s Sudarshan Chakra. The places where the nectar fell became sites for the Kumbh celebrations.

Naga Babas’ Unique Contribution

Naga Babas embody selflessness and spirituality. Their penance is not just a personal endeavor but a profound service to humanity. “Naga Babas are capable of facing any crisis and are dedicated to protecting Dharma,” Saurabhgiri said.

This Mahakumbh, with its historic 144-year significance, continues to draw millions of devotees to Prayagraj, seeking blessings and spiritual enrichment from saints and Naga Babas alike.
