Meerut Marriage Ceremony: A wedding ceremony in Meerut has captured the internet's attention, not for its rituals or traditions, but for its ostentatious display of wealth. Held at a resort on NH-58, the nikah ceremony between two families featured a massive exchange of cash and expensive gifts, raising eyebrows and sparking debates online.

Cash-Packed Suitcases Steal the Show

In a video that went viral, suitcases filled with cash were seen being exchanged between the bride and groom's families. The bride's family handed over Rs. 2.5 crore in cash to the groom’s side as part of the wedding customs. Additionally, the groom’s family gave Rs. 11 lakh as part of the joota churai ritual, a tradition where the bride’s sisters “steal” the groom’s shoes and demand money in return.

More Lavish Gifts for the Ceremony

The extravagance didn’t stop there.

The video also captured a person loudly announcing these lavish gifts as they were being handed over.

Stealthy Recording Unveils the Luxury

The video, recorded secretly by a guest, revealed these details despite strict rules by the families to bar any filming of the event. When the guest was caught filming, they were asked to stop immediately. The footage, however, made its way online and has sparked widespread reactions.

Public Reaction and Debate

The video, shared by X user Arzoo, condemned the excessive dowry and wealth display. Arzoo wrote:
"A royal marriage took place in a resort in which Rs.2.56 crores were given to the groom, Rs.11 lakhs were stolen as shoes, Rs.11 lakhs were given as Nikah recitation, Rs.8 lakhs were given to the mosque. Unfortunately, poor daughters are left unmarried because of these customs."

This comment resonated with many who criticized the event as a stark reminder of how societal pressures and extravagant practices can marginalize families unable to meet such expectations.
