Modi Meets Olympics Winners: On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the Indian team that recently returned from the Paris Olympics. The athletes achieved six medals, marking India's second-best performance ever at the Summer Games. The reception took place at Modi's official residence in New Delhi.

Historic Achievements by Shooters

Shooter Manu Bhaker, who made history as the first Indian to win two medals in a single Olympic Games, was among those who met with the Prime Minister. Bhaker explained to Modi about the pistol she used to win two bronze medals. Other medal-winning shooters, Sarabjot Singh and Swapnil Kusale, also had the chance to interact with Modi. Singh, who won bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed event alongside Bhaker, and Kusale, who earned bronze in the 50m rifle 3 positions, shared their experiences with the Prime Minister.

Hockey Team and Wrestler's Gifts

The Indian men’s hockey team, which secured its second consecutive Olympic bronze, presented Modi with a hockey stick signed by all the players, along with a signed jersey. Wrestler Aman Sehrawat, who earned a bronze medal in the men’s freestyle 57kg category, also had the opportunity to meet Modi and presented him with a signed India jersey.

Neeraj Chopra’s Ongoing Journey

Silver medalist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, who won gold at the Tokyo Olympics, has not yet returned home. He is currently in Germany for medical consultations regarding a groin injury and to explore participation in the Diamond League Meetings in Europe.

Modi’s Remarks on the Athletes’ Achievements

Prime Minister Modi expressed his delight at meeting the athletes and praised their accomplishments. He noted on X (formerly Twitter), "Every player who went to Paris is a champion. The Government of India will continue to support sports and ensure top-quality infrastructure is built."

Independence Day Celebrations

Earlier in the day, the medal winners were special guests at the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort. Manu Bhaker, Sarabjot Singh, and PR Sreejesh, the retired goalkeeper of the bronze medal-winning hockey team, were among those seated in the VVIP area.

Modi’s Address on Hosting the 2036 Olympics

In his address from the Red Fort, Modi congratulated the athletes and emphasized India's ambition to host the Olympics in 2036. He remarked that India's successful organization of the G20 Summit on a large scale had demonstrated the country's capability to manage major events and assured that preparations for hosting the 2036 Olympics were underway.
