In a tragic and deeply disturbing case, Aliya Fakhri, the sister of Bollywood actress Nargis Fakhri, has been arrested and indicted in the United States for first-degree murder and arson. Details of the Incident

The fire broke out on November 2 in a two-story detached garage. Witnesses claim Aliya shouted, “You’re all going to die today,” before setting the fire near the garage entrance. The victims, Edward Jacobs (35) and Anastasia Ettienne (33), were trapped inside and succumbed to smoke inhalation and thermal injuries. Prosecutors revealed that Anastasia attempted to escape but returned to save Edward, resulting in her tragic demise alongside him.

Charges and Potential Sentence

Aliya Fakhri, aged 43, faces severe legal consequences: Four counts of first-degree murder, Four counts of second-degree murder, One count each of first-degree and second-degree arson, If convicted of the top charge, she could face life imprisonment.

Motivations and Context

According to Edward Jacobs’ mother, Janet, Aliya had been struggling to accept the breakup with Edward, which occurred a year ago. Janet described Aliya as “not accepting the rejection” and accused her of trying to rekindle the relationship against Edward’s wishes. Aliya’s mother, however, told Daily News that her daughter was a caring person who wouldn’t commit such an act, attributing her behavior to struggles with opioid addiction.

Legal Proceedings

Aliya Fakhri has been indicted by a grand jury and is scheduled to return to court on December 9. Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz stated that Aliya “maliciously ended the lives of two people” and emphasized the seriousness of the charges.
