New Social Media Policy in Uttar Pradesh: What You Need to Know
New Social Media Policy in Uttar Pradesh: The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Yogi Adityanath, has introduced a new social media policy. This policy aims to control what people post on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and X. It also wants to encourage influencers to promote state government schemes. The Uttar Pradesh Digital Media Policy, 2024, was created by the state's information department and has been approved by the state cabinet.
Life Imprisonment for Anti-National Posts
Under this new policy, posting content that is considered 'anti-national' is now a serious crime. People who post such content could face penalties ranging from 3 years to life imprisonment. Additionally, posting obscene or defamatory material online can result in criminal defamation charges.

The policy also includes provisions for rewarding influencers. A digital agency named ‘V-Form’ will manage advertisements and oversee social media content, including videos, tweets, posts, and reels. Influencers will be divided into four categories based on their number of followers or subscribers.
Influencers promoting state government schemes and achievements will receive payments based on the platform they use. On X, Facebook, and Instagram, influencers can earn up to Rs.5 lakh, Rs.4 lakh, and Rs.3 lakh per month, respectively.
