Operation Sindoor: Indian Forces Strike Terror Camps in PoK and Pakistan
On May 7, 2025, the Indian Armed Forces started a special mission named ‘Operation Sindoor’. The operation focused on destroying terrorist camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK).

Nine Terror Camps Targeted Across the Border
According to the Ministry of Defence, nine terror infrastructure sites were attacked during the operation. These camps were said to be connected with banned terror groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen.
The government clarified that no Pakistani army bases were attacked, only terror-related locations were targeted.
Pakistan Responds with Shelling on Indian Villages
In response to the strikes, the Pakistani army fired heavy mortar shells on Indian villages near the Line of Control (LoC). The shelling was reported in areas like Krishna Ghati, Shahpur, and Mankote in Poonch, and Laam, Manjakote, and Gambeer Brahmana in Rajouri.
India Plans Civil Defence Training and Drills
A day before the operation, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan reviewed steps to strengthen India's civil defence system. This included mock drills, air-raid siren tests, civilian safety training, and cleaning of bunkers to prepare for possible future attacks.
UNSC Urges Peace but Takes No Action
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) held a private meeting to discuss the situation between India and Pakistan. While many envoys asked for peace and talks, the UNSC did not issue an official statement. Pakistan, however, claimed it achieved what it aimed for in the meeting.
