PCMC Faces Challenges in Achieving Rs.1,000 Crore Property Tax Target
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) had set a target of Rs.1,000 crore in property tax collection for this year. However, as of February 25, the civic body has managed to collect only Rs.775 crore. Several factors, including government schemes, election-related restrictions, and survey delays, have impacted tax recovery efforts.

Impact of Waivers on Tax Collection
PCMC used to generate additional income through penalties and utility fees. However, in February, the Maharashtra government waived these charges, resulting in a loss of Rs.150-Rs.200 crore annually. Additionally, the garbage collection utility fee, which generated Rs.44 crore last year, has also been removed.
Unauthorised Constructions Affecting Revenue
Following strict action against illegal constructions in Kudalwadi, many unauthorized property owners have started avoiding tax payments. This has further affected the overall collection figures.
Sealing of Defaulters’ Properties
To boost recovery, PCMC’s tax department has launched strict action against defaulters. So far:
- 850 properties have been sealed, mainly non-residential.
- 438 properties are up for auction to recover dues.
- Employees and contractors in the city have been instructed to clear their pending tax payments.
Efforts to Meet the Target
PCMC officials are intensifying their efforts to close the gap before the financial year ends. “We are taking strict action to ensure the Rs.1,000 crore target is met,” said Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale-Patil.
